So, at work we have Sirius radio, and since this is subscription radio, I’d personally expect to hear a wider variety of music with more independent and up-and-coming artists than on standard radio.
Alas, this is not to be. Although there are 110 channels available, many of them play more or less exactly the same music. For example, Shakira’s “My hips don’t lie” was played almost every hour on at least 4 different stations (Top 40, 90s and now, The Beat, and one of the Alternative stations). Ok, so there are in fact 2 different versions of this song, and the alternative station didn’t play the club version, and The Beat didn’t play the standard version, but still. It was seriously enough to make me want to take a gun and put it to the radio.
Even worse that that song though is “Unfaithful” by Rihanna. Now, the “plot” of this song is that she’s cheating on her lover and feels very guilty. It includes lovely lines like
I don’t wanna do this anymore
I don’t wanna take away his life
I don’t wanna be…
Cause I know that he knows I’m unfaithful
I might as well take a gun and put it to his head
Get it over with
Ok, Rihanna, I realise that you didn’t write this song, but you should have had the sense to refuse to record it because it makes you sound like a lying skank who is unwilling to make a decision.
If you really “don’t want to do this anymore”, THEN DON’T!! No one is forcing you to be in multiple relationships. If you feel that this is “killing him inside” and that is something you don’t want, then STOP. I don’t care if you break up with the guy you’re living with and go on with the new guy, or break it off with the other guy, or break up with both, or stay with both and have an open relationship.
I don’t care, but STOP SINGING THIS SONG!!!
Now, I have to admit, that in this song, Rihanna is not blameless… her lover/boyfriend/main man is apperently AWARE that she’s cheating on him and is unwilling to do anything about it. If there are problems like that in a relationship they aren’t just going to one day go away unless you confront them and deal with them.
I realise I’m ranting to no one about an idiotic song but if I have to hear that damned song ONE more time… I don’t even know what I’ll do.
